US President Donald Trump has delivered a ultimatum to the Hamas organization, calling for them to agree to a American settlement for the Gaza region or else risk intense repercussions.

Through a message on his online platform on the end of the week, Trump announced that an understanding must be finalized by Sunday evening (10 PM GMT) on Sunday.

This suggested proposal involves an immediate halt to conflict and the return within 72 hours of twenty surviving Israel detainees held by the group—along with the bodies of hostages believed to be no longer alive—in exchange for hundreds of arrested Gazans.

Arab and Turkish mediators are reported to be urging Hamas for a positive reply to the proposal, but a prominent Hamas official has stated that the militant group is expected to reject it.

"Should this LAST CHANCE deal is not achieved, severe retaliation, similar to nobody has previously seen, will occur against Hamas. WE WILL ACHIEVE STABILITY IN THE AREA ONE WAY OR THE OTHER," Trump posted in the online post.

Intermediaries have made contact with the head of the group's combat unit in Gaza, who has suggested that he is opposed to the new American ceasefire plan, as per reports.

It is thought that certain members of Hamas's political wing in the Gulf state are open to agreeing to the proposal with modifications—but have discovered their influence constrained as they are without authority over the detainees detained by the faction.

Another stumbling block for certain in Hamas is that the proposal necessitates them to release all the detainees over the opening short window of the halt—giving away their sole leverage point.

It is estimated to be forty-eight captives still being held in the Palestinian area by the armed group, just twenty of whom are thought to be alive.
